Recently I got the special privilege of interviewing Sarah, from HER Tribal. Her and her daughter have both been a part of our Girl Truth community from the very beginning. She is also a dear friend to me.
During her interview she shared her personal story of leading her 3 girls spiritually in her home during a time when her husband was no longer leading or interested. Sarah and her husband had served in the ministry for years. They loved the Lord and put Him first. Things were going really well and they were both on the same page. God was using her and her husband’s marriage to break generational things off. God was shifting things and getting them ready for a big transition and a major breakthrough. He was calling them to pastor their very own church! For years they assisted other pastors. Now they had their own church and the target on their heads that caught the enemy’s attention just got bigger.
Sarah felt something coming. She begin to notice that her...
Focusing on ourselves as mothers may seem selfish, but really it’s the best thing we can do spiritually for our children. Making that time to read our word, having devotional time with the Lord, praying, etc is how we set ourselves up for success. Not just success in our own life, but also as that leader pouring into our children’s lives. In Matthew 4:4 the word of God says, “It is written, man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Have you ever felt like you’re just lost or not on fire for God the way you once were? Put yourself first and spend time with God. Don’t leave your spiritual life on the back burner. Put it at the forefront so you can walk in his love, authority and full of his word.
A study by Barna showed that kids who have a lasting faith are highly influenced in their home spiritually. That’s doesn’t come as a shock to me. That’s one of our core messages in Girl...
What is a watchman and why is it such a vital role for us women to have in our home? You probably seen dozens of movies with a watchman on a tower or on a really high-leveled wall. The watchman was probably old and feeble, haha! His main role was to observe and be a lookout for enemies, danger and harmful things that were trying to enter the city gates. The first person’s life to be threatened was always the watchman. He had a very important role.
God has called us women to be watchmen in our homes as well. From a Biblical perspective it may seem very similar to the role of a watchman in the movies, but it is so much deeper. The word watchman in Hebrew is “Tsaphar”. Tsaphar means to look out, look about, spy, keep watch, observe, lean forward, peak and peer into. This word has so much to do with being aware with our eyes. First, before we dive deeper, we...
What is Biblical authority? How do we walk in it in our own home?
Every battle that we face as the people of God, as women of God, as parents or whatever our title may be, starts in the spirit. Everything we face and everything that we are asking God for, first takes place in the spirit. Before it even happens in the natural, it will happen in the spirit. Anything that’s manifesting itself in the natural is because of what’s going on underneath.
We see this all throughout the Bible, where things were happening underneath. The Israelites turned their face from God and experienced years of turmoil, but it first began in the spirit. It first began with the condition of their heart and relationship with our Heavenly Father.
As a parent whose raising Godly teens it’s important to create an atmosphere in your home where God can move, where your child has opportunity to experience a relationship with Him. It’s so important to provide an atmosphere...
Hey Mama,
You don’t have to be perfect. What our daughters need is to see us live out an authentic faith. Not a perfect faith because we’re not perfect. Only Jesus is perfect, but if our faith is authentic then our children will be more likely to gravitate towards what is real. What does that mean? It means we’re not saying one thing and doing another. We’re not lecturing them about one thing and then living another way. When we say we love and follow Jesus they would be able to see that in every area of our life. When we mess up…we own it. We don’t try to cover it up. We don’t try to hide it. We just own it.
If teenagers love anything, it’s authenticity. They love to hear real life stories. They want to know if you’re struggling. They want to know if you’ve walked through the things that they’ve walked through. It’s this time in their life when they’re deciding all sorts of things about who they are and...
Did you know since 2009, self-harm has increased 189% amongst preteen girls. While that statistic is staggering, it says nothing of the suicide rates, the depression and the anxiety rates that are skyrocketing with our teenagers. No one can say that social media causes these mental health concerns, but there is an absolute correlation between the usage of social media and the way that our children are experiencing mental health. See, it’s so important that as educators, as parents, as mamas, as fathers, that we are armed and ready for the battle that is already on our doorstep.
I created a Digital Worldview because I wanted parents and educators, mentors to know, according to Life Impact 360, that only 4% of Gen Z has a Biblical worldview. Well, if only 4% has a biblical worldview, then what worldview do they have? I call it a digital one.
I ask parents all the time, “Who is discipling your child?” I say discipling because they are following so many different...
I recently seen a video of a woman who went under cover as an 11 year old girl with her media company. It only took 1 minute for predators to start messaging the woman who was portraying herself as a child. These predators commented with obscene words and pictures. It was shocking!
Now I know just like me, many of you have been concerned about social media and what's going on online. It's important to be aware of what can happen.
Most of us are familiar with Snapchat, Twitter and Instagram. Nowadays there's so many different social media platforms to choose from. Here's a picture of a few apps that are popular with teens. Do you recognize any of them? I could literally only identity 5! That's it, but these apps are popular amongst our teens. They present a world of different things to our children.
Statistics show that 84% of children between the ages of 12 and 18 have cell phones. My biggest concern as a mother right now, regarding this...
Have you ever wondered why it is so hard to get your teen enthusiastic about anything? Yes, I know like me you have heard those dreaded words like, "I'm bored," even though there's tons of things to do in their room. Here's the reason why. Teenagers naturally have a lower amount of dopamine in their brains. They actually have less than adults.
So what is dopamine? Dopamine is a little neurotransmitter that is responsible for all our pleasure and our reward responses. Anytime we do something fun, novel, exciting or we eat food that's really good, dopamine is released and it says, "Oh, I want to do that again!"
Well teenagers have very little of this. They actually do not have a lot of dopamine and that is why they are constantly chasing thrill-seeking, exciting or really high highs. It's because their dopamine levels are so low everyday and mundane things do not excite them. It's like they need an overload just to get the normal amount of reward response inside of...
I talk about this subject a lot, but the more and more that I sit with moms and teenagers and hear their stories on a weekly basis I am absolutely convinced that we are living in a digital Babylon.
I did not coin that phrase. That is a phrase that came from Barna which is a researching institute that researches all of the trends in the church and the trends that are happening in the generations.
It is so true that so much of what our kids are experiencing on the internet and through digital spaces is exactly what happened in Babylonian times.
In the book of Daniel we see a couple of things that happened right off the bat when the children of Israel leave, wherever they were, and get shipped off into Babylon. The first thing that happens is they change their name, right?
They change their names to Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. That was not their names. It was Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah. These three men had to change their...
I am super passionate about prayer. I love to pray and intercede, especially when it comes to the next generation because I truly believe that it is one of our most valuable weapons that we can ever use.
I had struggled with the Lord with this because I emphasize prayer a lot in our community. I talk about prayer a lot. I legit have a prayer wall with all the of the Girl Truth teenage girl's names on it. However, I have been criticized for that because some people feel like you can't just pray ALL the time. You also need to do something and to that I say, yes I agree! Faith without works is dead.
I remember talking to the Lord about this and wondering...hmm am I emphasizing on prayer too much? Should I be focusing on something else? But the Holy Spirit spoke loud and clear. It said, "Prayer Works!" I was like, "Yeah, I know. Lol, that's why I do it," but I felt the Lord say, not like that. Not the everyday prayer works phrase. Prayer literally goes to...
